Common Questions About Abortion Pill Reversal
Advocates at the Abortion Pill Reversal hotline will contact a doctor who is experienced in reversals. You will receive an ultrasound to confirm heart rate, placement and dating of your pregnancy. If you qualify, you will be prescribed progesterone, a naturally occurring hormone that plays a role in pregnancy and fertility, to be taken either orally, vaginally or through intramuscular injection. You will continue this treatment through your first trimester.
If you have insurance, some policies may cover the treatment. If you do not have insurance, discuss this with the doctor. There is also financial support available at Abortion Pill Rescue.
The reversal process has a 64 – 68% chance of success.
At Towson Women’s Care, we can connect you with adoption services if you feel parenting is not the right option for you at this time. Adoption looks very different today, and you even have the choice to remain in your child’s life. You can learn more here.
If you decide to parent, we can assist you with vitamins, baby supplies, parenting skills, equipment and referrals on getting you the help you need to raise a baby.
If you have taken the first dose of Mifeprestone and you have changed your mind on following through with your abortion, do not take the next prescribed pill, misoprostol or Cytotec. You still have a choice to reverse the process. These pills can be discarded appropriately.
Cramping is common after taking the first dose and this does not mean that it is too late. If you are experiencing heavy bleeding, severe pain or fever, please call a doctor immediately.
It is important that you get an ultrasound as soon as possible to confirm that your baby is in the uterus.
According to The American Academy of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, there is no known evidence of birth defects from the abortion pill, Mifeprestone.
Progesterone is a hormone that your body naturally produces and is essential in nurturing your pregnancy, therefore, the abortion reversal process is safe.
