Abortion Safety Checklist
Thinking of abortion? Take care of these things before any procedure.
- Confirm your pregnancy – undergoing any procedure without official confirmation of pregnancy could negatively impact your health.
- Determine that your pregnancy is in your uterus through ultrasound. Did you know that approximately 1 out of 50 pregnancies are ectopic pregnancies, where the fertilized egg attaches itself somewhere other than the uterus[1]? Undergoing an abortion before locating the pregnancy is strongly discouraged.
- Determine the viability of your pregnancy, or if your fetus is alive. You may be unaware that 20% of women experience natural miscarriage in the first trimester[1] Our ultrasound technician can detect viability.
- Obtain an ultrasound to determine gestational age. This will better inform you on your options.
- Do you have an IUD? If so, the FDA clearly states that you are not eligible for the Abortion Pill, as it could negatively effect your health.[2]
- Have you discussed your options? At Towson Women’s Care, our client advocates and medical professionals will discuss all of your options (pregnancy, abortion or adoption) to determine what is best for your individual needs.
- Have you notified the father of the baby? Some women need assistance with communicating with the father of the baby or even family members. If you are feeling pressured in any way, come to Towson Women’s Care to discuss strategies that will empower you to make decisions that you are comfortable with. It is never right to feel pressured and it is important to remember that you have time to think this through and learn more about your options.
- Do you have health insurance? Have you researched a doctor? At Towson Women’s Care, we can walk you through the necessary steps in obtaining health insurance or researching doctors to address your health needs.

Q & A
The primary symptom of pregnancy is missing 1 or more menstrual periods, but women often experience other symptoms prior to a missed period. Some of these are similar to pre-menstrual symptoms such as, swollen or tender breasts, slight bleeding, and mood swings. Other symptoms include nausea/vomiting, headaches, fatigue, food cravings/aversions or frequent urination. These symptoms vary from woman to woman, so it is possible to experience one or several of these symptoms. It is best to confirm your pregnancy with a lab quality pregnancy test.

Pregnancy test appointments range from 20 – 30 minutes, which includes time spent with a client advocate to talk about your special circumstances. If you are receiving an ultrasound on the same day, your appointment will be closer to 45 minutes – 1 hour.
We currently are scheduling appointments for in-person visits only. Appointments are available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between the hours of 10 am and 3 pm. Ultrasounds are also scheduled by appointment only and can be performed on the same day, depending on how far along you are in your pregnancy and if we have an available appointment.
If you are considering abortion, we offer FREE pregnancy tests and ultrasounds and provide confidential counseling to provide you with all the information you need to make an informed decision.
