Frequently Asked Questions
The primary symptom of pregnancy1 is missing 1 or more menstrual periods, but women often experience other symptoms prior to a missed period. Some of these are similar to pre-menstrual symptoms such as swollen or tender breasts, slight bleeding, and mood swings. Other symptoms include nausea/vomiting, headaches, fatigue, food cravings/aversions or frequent urination. These symptoms vary from woman to woman, so it is possible to experience one or several of these symptoms. It is best to confirm your pregnancy with a lab quality pregnancy test.
We are not currently taking walk-ins. Please request an appointment online (we will call you to confirm whether or not your requested time is available) or call 410-377-2871 to schedule now.
Yes, you may bring a friend. However, in order to adhere to HIPAA requirements, we will see you alone first while your friend waits in the waiting room, and then you may invite them to join us in the intake process.
It is recommended that you have a home test verified by our lab quality urine pregnancy tests. (we do not provide blood tests). If your test is positive, we can then offer you an ultrasound to determine 3 things: if the pregnancy is viable (living), the gestational age (how far along you are) and that the pregnancy is located in the uterus. This is a necessary step in making a decision that is best for you.

If you are considering abortion, Towson Women’s Care will confirm your pregnancy with a pregnancy test and will offer an ultrasound to determine if your pregnancy is viable. 10-20% of all pregnancies end in natural miscarriage, so many times an abortion is not necessary. If your pregnancy is viable, we will provide you with up-to-date information on all of your options in a confidential manner. We do not provide abortions at our center, but will discuss your options so you can make an informed decision.
You will need to bring your driver’s license or other form of identification.
Your privacy is extremely important to us. If you are under the age of 18, you may come in alone to discuss your options and decide together who is best to be included in your support system.
We currently do not offer STD testing, but can make a referral for you to receive treatment.
Pregnancy test appointments range from 20 – 30 minutes, which includes time spent with a client advocate to talk about your special circumstances. If you are receiving an ultrasound on the same day, your appointment will be closer to 45 minutes – 1 hour.
We provide limited OB ultrasounds to determine viability, gestational age, and whether or not the pregnancy is intrauterine. Sexual gender can be detected around 12 weeks of pregnancy and is best determined under the supervision of your OB/GYN.
It takes between 6-10 days after intercourse for conception to take place. We recommend that you wait 10 days following intercourse to schedule your appointment.
